Research Project (Clinical) A1
Overview
The aim of the research program in the Master of Psychology (Clinical Psychology) course is to enhance students' awareness of the importance of a scientific research base for the practice of clinical psychology, to consolidate students' practical understanding of research methodology related to clinical psychology, and to teach appropriate research design and clinical analysis skills. Research Project (Clinical) A1 is the first of the four research units (A1, A2, B1, B2) in the course. The main aim of this unit is to develop a detailed research proposal which will allow a minor research thesis to be completed in the subsequent three research units.

Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
- Explain the components of contemporary research in an area related to clinical psychology and analyse the trade-offs in different research designs
- Conduct research that allows an appropriate project design to be developed
- Communicate a research design and proposal in written and verbal format
- Work collaboratively with research partners

- Individual formulation of research questions/hypotheses
- Design of an appropriate empirical research project i.e., methodology and data analysis procedures used must be generally recognised within psychology as sound and appropriate for the research question
