Admission into BH-DES - Bachelor of Design (Honours)

Admission into MA-DESG - Master of Design

Aims and objectives

This unit introduces students to the use of case study method and associated methods of interview and observation as a means for designers in a professional or academic context to investigate and substantiate design’s role in driving innovation in global business, cultural or social settings.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Examine the value and mechanics of case study method in exploring how practices and principles of design innovation play out in specific instances and situations.
2. Explain how to frame a research design, explaining the choice and application of specific methods for data gathering and analysis, including the triangulation of methods.
3. Integrate published knowledge into a research process, appraising its value.
4. Gather and analyse relevant data in a rigorous and meaningful way singly or in a team.
5. Produce a small research case study to transmit knowledge and ideas to others.
6. Comply with the highest standards for the responsible conduct of research.
