Aims and objectives

This unit explores the complexity of the construction industry, both local and global, the roles of different stakeholders, different production methods, and the distribution and management of information, including Building Information Management systems.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Analyse the principles of business management and their application to the development of built environments, project procurement and the operation of a professional consultancy (A1, A2, A3, A5, A6, A7, K6, S4)
2. Examine professional ethics and codes of conduct as they apply to the practice of architecture (A1, A2, A4, A5, K5, K6, S1)
3. Assess the potential roles for architects within an international context (A1, A4, K5)
4. Assess the social context in which built environments are commissioned, and the responsibilities of architects designing them to clients, the publics, and users  (A1, A3, A4, K3, K5, S1, S4)
