Aims and objectives

This unit aims to bridge the gap between manual and digital technologies for product design. This unit will be divided into two main areas – digital sketching using relevant digital tablet technologies and digital communication rendering using 3D computer software relevant to Industrial Design. The aim is for students to experience new digital technologies for sketching and to develop advanced presentation/product representation skills.
 
After successfully completing this unit students should be able to:
1. Produce digital sketching and rendering techniques for advanced presentations
2. Apply knowledge in manual sketching, to be transferred across digital platforms
3. Design a project with established outcomes by utilising relevant digital technologies
4. Produce realistic digital sketches and 3D digital renderings relevant to industry
5. Create a practical design methodology and process to design projects
6. Evaluate project outcomes in relation to industry expectations.
