Aims and objectives

This unit examines and applies music to contemporary circus arts. Through guided listening, students learn to recognise and understand identifying elements and characteristics of music from a variety of styles and genres. Students will learn to respond to music through movement applied to their circus arts and participate in active music making through singing, playing percussion, and rudimentary composing and improvisation.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Identify elements of music in a variety of styles and genres.
2. Play/sing as part of a group.
3. Move with sensitivity to music.
4. Create a rudimentary sound design for circus arts.
5. Perform and improvise on percussion instruments at a rudimentary level.
