In today's dynamic, global work environment, leaders need to be able to communicate effectively with people located in the same geographical location or located anywhere across the globe. This unit offers students an opportunity to evaluate and utilize numerous communications options to develop an authentic, powerful, leadership voice using interpersonal, technology-mediated, and intercultural communications competencies and techniques. From these discussions, students have an opportunity to develop a personal model for leadership communication and define an action plan for their growth in powerful leadership communications.
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. understand concepts of leadership communications
2. analyse their own behaviour and behaviour of others through leadership concepts
3. implement the leadership communications concepts in their actions

Teaching methods
Blended:
Scheduled hours: Class (2 x 1.5hrs + 1 x 1 hr)
Online: NEU
Engaging with online content and discussions
Student workload:
For all teaching and learning structures (both face to face and online), students are expected to spend an average of 150 hours per unit in total over the duration of the study period
This includes all:
• Scheduled teaching and learning events and activities (contact hours timetabled in a face-to-face teaching space) and scheduled online learning events (contact hours scheduled in an online teaching space), and
To be successful, students should:
• Read all prescribed materials and/or view videos in preparation for each class
• Attend and engage in all scheduled classes (face to face or online)
• Start assessment tasks well ahead of the due date, and submit assessments promptly
• Read / listen to all feedback carefully, and consider it for future assessment
• Engage with fellow students and teaching staff (don’t hesitate to ask questions)

• Start assessment tasks well ahead of the due date, and submit assessments promptly
• Read / listen to all feedback carefully, and consider it for future assessment

Content
• Define leadership communications and the leadership communication framework
• Describe aspects of an effective leadership communications strategy, including but not limited to, purpose, messages, media/forum and audiences
• Develop a fundamental understanding of how theory guides practice
• Analyse audiences and design communication strategies tailored to them
• Evaluate different options for communications media and determine the optimum option
• Examine strengths and areas for improvement in leadership communications though the use of self-assessments and reflective exercises
• Plan and deliver prepared and impromptu presentations confidently and persuasively
