Aims and objectives

This unit provides students with an insight into Italian literature and culture to achieve an in-depth understanding of a selection of the most representative Italian authors, thinkers and literary and intellectual movements and Italian culture in its various forms since the Ninetieth Century.
 
After completion of this unit students would be expected to be able to:
1. Analyse and evaluate the impact of social, political, historical, literary and cultural events contributing to the shaping of the Italian nation;
2. Evaluate the impact of literature and culture on Italian society;
3. Appreciate the nuances of Italian literature and culture; analyse and understand relevant interconnections between societal issues, politics, film and literature & culture;
4. Critique the development of Italy as a modern nation through its contemporary literary representation
5. Understand the influence of literature on Italian society.
