Aims and objectives

The subject presents an overview of Italian Cinema and the theoretical concerns it has generated from its beginnings to present day. It also provides an introductory overview of Italian cinema history and culture.
 
After successfully completing this unit, students will be able to:
1. Appreciate Italian cinema history and its relationship to society and culture;
2. Locate relevant theoretical information relating to modern Italian cinema;
3. Interpret how historical and cultural events and characters have shaped modern Italian cinema;
4. Discuss the cinematic development of Italy;
5. Examine and analyze the fundamental similarities and differences of different cultures and societies.
