Aims and objectives

The aim of this unit to provide students with a general understanding of the international construction market and learning experience in the key issues and concepts of procuring construction projects in an international context.

Unit Learning Outcomes
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Describe the global construction market and strategies adopted by organisations in the context of exporting construction services
2. Identify, analyse and review the construction practices in developing countries, with particular emphasis on construction productivity and safety
3. Appreciate private sector participation in finance, design, construction and operation of infrastructure
4. Appreciate the financial risks encountered by contracting organisations in the global construction market and the practices/ methods to mitigate risks
5. Analyse common trends and challenges of forming international joint ventures in construction
6. Apply the process for selecting and training of construction professionals to undertake major project assignments in an international context
