Aims and objectives

This unit introduces students to the forces and influences that have focused attention on the management and performance of housing agencies. It uses concepts drawn from organisation theory, organisational behaviour, and public and not-for-profit management literatures to explore the challenges of managing housing agencies and the individuals who comprise them. Key management tools and techniques are explored, including strategic and operational planning, resource management, service quality and relationship management. Performance management issues are also explored.


Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Describe the elements of how organisations work and the key drivers of changes
2. Elaborate on strategic and operational planning tools for social housing and homelessness organisations
3. Defend contemporary change management theories
4. Recommend key performance measurement practices in organisations
5. Predict influences on effective service delivery in social housing and homelessness organisations
