Aims and objectives

This unit explores the concepts, principles, skills and capabilities required to lead and support design-led innovation in organisations. It explores the potential for design as a transformative practice to create new visions, new opportunities, new business models and new ways to influence people. The unit explores design beyond the creation of artefacts to influence, motivate and lead social change. It explores different styles of leadership and the capabilities required to lead, strategise, and deal with complexity and change within future-oriented, design-led organisations.
 
Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Investigate current leadership trends in design-led organisations through the review of literature
2. Reflect, critique and analyse different leadership styles in different organisational contexts
3. Understand and recognise interdisciplinary and participatory practices in teamwork and the role of the leadership in teams
4. Synthesise and develop outcomes that illustrate exemplary design leadership through a coherent well-structured report and presentation
