The aim of the capstone research experience is to enable students to demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills gained during their study for the award of Master of Aviation Management and Master of Human Factors by Coursework, by undertaking an independent research to address a contemporary or emerging aviation issue and to present their research outcome in a report appropriate for industry or a dissertation with a similar style of a peer-reviewed journal/conference paper.
After successfully completing this unit, students will be able to:
1. Identify a contemporary or emerging issue or challenge in the aviation industry
2. Construct a proposal statement that succinctly explains the topic and purpose of a capstone research project and provides a rationale as to why this proposed research is undertaken
3. Describe the research methodology where appropriate
4. Interpret and discuss the findings effectively and appropriately
5. Present and submit an academically vigorous research report that addresses the research questions effectively.

Content
There is no structured teaching for this unit although some learning materials and thesis writing guideline will be available online. This unit requires students who intend to pursue a Master of Aviation Management or Master of Human Factors to demonstrate their achievement of in depth knowledge of the chosen area and capability of undertaking an independent research. It is an individual piece of work and requires students to:
• Determine their choice of research topic;
• Develop their research questions;
• Formulate the research design;
• Determine the research methodology appropriate for data collection and analysis; and
• Discuss and present their research findings.
