Overview

The aim of the aviation research dissertation is to enable students to demonstrate the application of knowledge and skills gained during their study for the award of Master of Aviation by Coursework, by undertaking independent research to address contemporary or emerging aviation human factor issues and challenges and to develop innovative strategies for implementation. Students will present their research outcome in a report appropriate for industry or a dissertation with a similar style to a peer-reviewed journal/conference paper.

Learning outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:

  • Identify a contemporary or emerging aviation human factor issue or challenge in the aviation industry
  • Construct a proposal statement that succinctly explains the topic and purpose of a research project and provides a rationale as to why this proposed research is undertaken
  • Describe the research methodology where appropriate
  • Interpret and discuss the findings effectively and appropriately
  • Present and submit a research report that addresses the research questions effectively

Content

There is no structured teaching for this unit although some learning materials and thesis writing guideline will be available online. This unit requires students who intend to pursue a Master of Aviation to demonstrate their achievement of in depth knowledge of the chosen area and capability of undertaking an independent research. It is an individual piece of work and requires students to:

  • Determine their choice of research topic
  • Develop their research questions
  • Formulate the research design
  • Determine the research methodology appropriate for data collection and analysis
  • Discuss and present their research findings.
