BCA20009 The Contemporary Circus Industry

Aims and objectives

This unit provides students with skills and knowledge required to work in the circus industry. They examine professional industry employment scenarios including operating as a small business, a sole trader, an employee or a freelance artist. Students study business and operational planning as well as marketing in relation to their specialised careers within the circus industry. They also further study the legal, financial and operational requirements of the creative industries.

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
1. Initiate creative projects for the contemporary circus industry.
2. Market their acts in a variety of contexts to professional industry standards.
3. Apply persuasive negotiation skills to secure employment opportunities.
4. Fulfil the legal and financial requirements of operating as a small business, sole trader and/or freelance artist.
5. Develop a business and operational plan for working in the circus industry.
