Aims and objectives

At the conclusion of this unit students should have a broad understanding of the strategic and managerial approaches to fleet selection and acquisition and the complexity of cost, technical and other evaluations, as well as the decision-making processes that lead to contract negotiations and eventually finalisation of the process.

Unit Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete this unit will be able to:
 
1. Describe the strategic planning process that is used to define an operator’s business objectives
2. Explain how the processes of market analysis, forecasting and research contribute to the evaluation process.
3. Analyse and explain the techniques and procedures that can be applied to the technical and cost evaluation leading to optimum selection of aircraft.
4. Explain the information needs of all segments of the organisation in relation to the inputs and outputs of aircraft evaluation.
5. Contribute effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary aircraft evaluation team
6. Describe the decision-making steps involved in contract negotiations for aircraft selection
7. Demonstrate through individual written communications the application of analysis and theory to developments in aircraft evaluation and selection techniques in terms of current practices in the air transport industry.
