The transformation of space technologies, together with increased demand for space-based services are catalyzing continued growth in the Australian space ecosystem. The Australian space industry accounted for $3-4 Billion dollars in revenue during 2017, with strong capabilities in satellite communications, ground systems, geospatial applications, biotech and health services, and advanced manufacturing.
Space operations conducted by Australian organisations are subject to a range of domestic and international regulatory frameworks regardless of whether they are upstream (provision of technology) or downstream applications (exploitation of technology).
This subject will introduce you to the key Australian legislation and international agreements/treaties which govern domestic and international space operations. Aimed specifically at business people and researchers in the space field, Space Regulatory Frameworks will focus on intellectual property in relation to space research and how to collaborate on space research with international partners. At the successful completion of this unit, you will be able to confidently source relevant legal and regulatory information and know when to engage expert assistance and advice. You will also have an opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt to industry peers at a special day-long networking event.
