Course rules

To qualify for the Bachelor of Laws/Bachelor of Arts, students must complete 500 credit points comprising:

  • 19 core Law units (237.5 credit points)
  • 5 Law elective units (62.5 credit points)
  • 3 Professional Experiences in law units (0 credit points)
    - Please note: If a student completes LAW20025 Professional Experience in Law (Law Review), the student is not required to complete LAW20018.
    - Please note: If a student completes LAW30023 Professional Experience in Law (Innocence and Law Reform Project), the student is not required to complete LAW30016.
  • 15 Arts units (200 credit points) comprising:
    - 1 core Arts unit (25 credit points)
    - 8 units of study (100 credit points) from one of the following majors: Advertising, Chinese, Cinema and Screen Studies, Creative Writing and Literature, Criminology, Digital Advertising Technology, Environmental Sustainability, Games and Interactivity, History, International Studies, Japanese, Journalism, Media Industries, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Professional Writing and Editing, Social Media, and Sociology (100 credit points)
    - 6 units of study comprising of 1 x Arts minor and 2 electives or 6 Arts electives (75 credit points)

Domestic students also have an opportunity to undertake a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Professional Placement. Please note that due to government regulation international students holding a student visa are not able to undertake Professional Placements in this course.

Professional Placements

Professional Placements are subject to a competitive selection process.

Students who undertake a 12-month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 575 credit points comprising:

  • 19 core Law units (237.5 credit points)
  • 5 Law elective unit (62.5 credit points)
  • 3 Professional Experiences in law units (0 credit points) *(see note below)
    - Please note: If a student completes LAW20025 Professional Experience in Law (Law Review), the student is not required to complete LAW20018.
    - Please note: If a student completes LAW30023 Professional Experience in Law (Innocence and Law Reform Project), the student is not required to complete LAW30016.
  • 9 Arts units (125 credit points)
    - 1 core Arts unit (25 credit points)
    - 8 units of study from one of the following majors: Advertising, Chinese, Cinema and Screen Studies, Creative Writing and Literature, Criminology, Digital Advertising Technology, Environmental Sustainability, Games and Interactivity, History, International Studies, Japanese, Journalism, Media Industries, Philosophy, Politics and International Relations, Professional Writing and Editing, Social Media, and Sociology (100 credit points)
  • 4 units of other study comprising of a minor or four (4) electives (50 credit points)
  • 4 units of study from the Professional Placement Co-Major (100 credit points)

Students who elect to undertake a 6-month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 537.5 credit points comprising:

  • 19 core Law units (237.5 credit points)
  • 5 Law elective units (62.5 credit points)
  • 3 Professional Experiences in law units (0 credit points) *(see note below)
    - Please note: If a student completes LAW20025 Professional Experience in Law (Law Review), the student is not required to complete LAW20018.
    - Please note: If a student completes LAW30023 Professional Experience in Law (Innocence and Law Reform Project), the student is not required to complete LAW30016.
  • 9 Arts Units (125 credit points)
    - 1 core Arts unit (25 credit points)

* Please note if a student selects the Humanities Professional Placement units, the Professional Experience in Law units are required to be completed. If student selects the Law Professional Placement units, the Professional Experience in Law units are waived.
