The only double degree of its kind, this integrated program combines knowledge and skills development in health science while you learn how to leverage innovation for positive change in people’s health as well as your industry.
You’ll gain the qualifications to become an effective health scientist, with core study across a variety of disciplines and majors aligned with your aspirations. In addition, you’ll gain practical and technological innovation skills that will help you develop transformative solutions to the complex challenges of today and emerging opportunities of tomorrow.

Swinburne is devoted to experiential study, so you’ll have ample opportunity for Work Integrated Learning opportunities in the form of placements, internships and industry-based project work.
Upon graduation, you’ll be equipped to work in health science or innovation fields – or a combination of the two. You could pursue work as a medical researcher, health policy developer, clinical technologist, or nutritionist or take a more innovation-led pathway as an innovation consultant, strategic designer or even start your own business.

Successful completion of the Bachelor of Health Science/ Bachelor of Applied Innovation requires students to complete units of study to the value of 400 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

Swinburne's Work Integrated Learning program provides additional opportunities for you to gain valuable skills and real industry experience in the form of placements, internships or study tours - all while earning credit towards your degree.

Most students undertake their placements in the third year of their degree, so you’ll want to map out your electives as soon as you can and register for a placement at least 6 months before your preferred start date.

A Professional Internship is all about gaining valuable real-world skills in your area of study all while earning credit points towards your degree. Plus, it looks great on your CV as it shows you’ve had real industry experience before you’ve even graduated!
You might choose to complete your internship part-time over a semester or in a more intensive block during Summer or Winter terms.

- Full-time study: 100 credit points/eight standard units of study per year
- Part-time study: 50 credit points/four standard units of study per year

Course learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete this course will be able to:
- Apply theoretical and practical knowledge in one or more Health Science disciplines to enhance health outcomes and the welfare of individuals and/or populations
- Demonstrate competence in specialised technologies, and apply skills to critically analyse and interpret data relevant to the chosen discipline(s)
- Demonstrate initiative, effective teamwork, well developed judgment and responsibility within the culture, legal and ethical framework of Health professionals
- Communicate effectively with various stakeholders in Health to disseminate information, knowledge, skills, concepts utilising different delivery methods
