Course rules

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Computer Science, students must complete 300 credit points comprising:

  • 8 Computer Science Core units (100 credit points)
  • 8 units of study from one of the following Computer Science Majors: Software Design, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Games Development, Internet of Things, Network Design, Software Development (100 credit points)
  • 8 units of Other studies (100 credit points) comprising a second Computer Science Major, minor/s, advanced minor/s, co-major or electives
  • Students also have an opportunity to undertake a Work Integrated Learning Professional Placement

Students cannot complete more than 150 credit points (12 units) at Stage 1 (unit codes with a first digit of '1') A unit of study can only be counted once, where units are shared between majors and/or minors, students must choose an approved alternate, normally a unit taken from the list of recommended electives for the relevant major.

Professional Placement (optional)
Professional Placements are subject to a competitive selection process. International students may be required to change courses in order to complete a placement and should consider visa and extended study duration prior to applying.

Students who elect to undertake a 12-month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 375 credit points comprising:

  • 8 core units (100 credit points)
  • 8 units from one of the following majors: Software Design, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Games Development, Internet of Things, Network Design, Software Development (100 credit points)
  • 4 units from the Professional Placement Co-Major (100 credit points) and
  • 6 units comprising an advanced minor, minor or electives (75 credit points).

Students who elect to undertake a 6 month professional placement are subject to the following course rules and must complete 337.5 credit points comprising:

  • 8 Core Units of Study (100 credit points);
  • 8 units of study from the discipline majors: Software Design, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Games Development, Internet of Things, Network Design, Software Development (100 credit points)
  • 2 units of study from the Professional Placement Minor (50 credit points); and
  • 7 units of study comprising an Advanced Minor, Minor and/or electives (87.5 credit points).
