In this major you’ll develop the skills to manage yourself, organise and lead others, evaluate current situations, and make creative and well-informed decisions.
Learn about the role of management in business and discover how the use of key resources must be strategically planned, effectively deployed, monitored and controlled to meet strategic business objectives including business ethics and sustainability goals.
As preparation for contemporary management roles, you’ll learn to analyse and work through real business issues and receive advice from practising professionals.
This course provides an initial, undergraduate teaching qualification with the prospect of a business career. The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) provides students with the capacity to engage in innovative approaches to teaching and learning in a secondary school, as well as the ability to reflect on the social, ethical and professional expectations that the rise of technology brings to the classroom. It combines general education studies and teaching methods (curriculum studies) with three professional placements at a secondary school, 80 days in total. As a result, graduates are qualified to teach Years 7 to 12. Complementing this, the Bachelor of Business prepares students for the business profession, providing a solid foundation in the language of business and offering a practical curriculum with opportunities for industry engagement.

Course structure
Successful completion of the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) / Bachelor of Business requires students to complete units of study to the value of 400 credit points. All units of study are valued at 12.5 credit points unless otherwise stated.

Course learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Education (Secondary) will be able to:
- show initiative and judgement when making decisions or solving problems and have broad and coherent knowledge of secondary aged students and how they learn
- critically review theory and practice, and have broad and coherent knowledge of specific secondary school content areas within the Australian context
- show initiative and judgement to plan for, and implement, effective teaching and learning in diverse contexts with the capacity to solve problems with intellectual independence
- adapt knowledge and skills to critically analyse information in diverse contexts, and to create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments
- assess, provide feedback and report on student learning using clear and coherent communication with the ability to critically analyse, consolidate and synthesise assessment information
- demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own learning to identify, engage in and apply professional learning, individually and in collaboration with others
- engage professionally with colleagues, families and students, and the communication skills to present clear, coherent and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas.
Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Business will be able to:
- define and integrate theoretical principles applicable to business and apply those principles in a range of practices
- systematically review and critically evaluate research from a variety of sources in order to make informed judgements on options for innovatively solving a range of problems that arise in business contexts
- formulate creative solutions that are fit for purpose and demonstrate cognisance of the impact of business decisions on the triple bottom line
- coherently articulate a line of reasoning demonstrating cultural sensitivity and apply a framework to analyse and offer solutions to ethical dilemmas
- communicate a range of business arguments by evaluating and implementing alternative communication strategies as appropriate to the audience
- build on and continuously develop the intellectual independence to be critical and reflective learners, cognisant of new technologies
- work collaboratively in diverse groups.
Professional recognition
Graduates will be eligible for provisional registration by the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) as secondary teachers, and by reciprocal arrangements with teacher education authorities in other states, they are eligible for provisional registration in all Australian states and territories.
