Course description
The Undergraduate Certificate of Criminal Justice and Criminology develops a student’s ability to determine when an action is considered by society to be a crime and what causes individuals to commit crimes.
Course structure
To qualify for the award of Undergraduate Certificate of Criminal Justice and Criminology students must complete 50 credit points comprising:
- Four [4] Core units (50 credit points)

Career opportunities
The course emphasis is on knowledge and skills needed to understand Criminal Justice and Criminology and the role it plays in society, and as a pathway to further study.
Aims and objectives
On successful completion of this Course students will be able to :
- Demonstrate an awareness of the causes of crime and society's responses to criminality
- Apply basic principles of the Australian legal system to find the law relevant to particular facts
- Demonstrate effective and persuasive communication skills and research skills

Course fees and requirements
- Entry requirements and non-year 12 entry.
Students who participate in a six- or 12-month professional placement will be subject to an increase in total course fees.
Entry requirements
Standard Entry
Students complete one of:
• Successful completion of the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or its equivalent, such as an interstate or international Year 12 qualification.• Completion or partial completion of an approved tertiary qualification (including Certificates IV (completed), Diplomas, Advanced Diplomas, Associate Degrees and Degrees)• Applicants without a formal qualification may be considered for entry based on work experience.
Course Prerequisites
VCE Units 3 and 4: a minimum study score of 25 in any English (except EAL) or 30 in English as Alternate Language (EAL) or equivalent.
