International students in Australia who hold student visas are required to study full-time and on campus. Courses that are taught entirely online are only available to international students studying outside Australia or those in Australia who are not on a student visa. Online courses are not available to international students in Australia who hold a student visa.

- demonstrate high-level advanced knowledge and skills in civil engineering practice related to design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings and civil infrastructure
- plan and execute an independent research project in a relevant civil engineering topic by applying appropriate research principles, sound methods and technical research skills
- reflect in managing practical issues/ complex problems and describing/ developing contemporary and sustainable civil engineering trends and best practices related to design, construction, operation and maintenance of buildings and civil infrastructure

Entry requirements

The entry requirements for Master of Engineering (Civil) [or Master of Engineering Science (Civil)] are as follows:
- a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours)* (minimum four years of full time study) degree or
- a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Civil) degree following on from a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree or
- qualification deemed to be equivalent to any of the above.
* Applicants with a recognised Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree in an approved cognate field may be eligible for advanced standing.
English language requirements
Satisfactory completion of one of the following:
- Swinburne’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%
- minimum IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
- TOEFL iBT (internet-based) minimum score of 79 with a reading band no less than 18 and writing band no less than 20
- Pearson (PTE) minimum score of 58 (no communicative skills less than 50)
- any other equivalent assessment of English language proficiency.
