Course structure
- 3 foundation units (37.5 credit points)
- 3 technical units (37.5 credit points)
- 2 further technical units or elective units (25 credit points)

- Units of study from other postgraduate programs within Swinburne may be approved by the course co-coordinator, as recommended elective units, on a case-by-case basis
- Units of study are either taught on-campus, distance* or intensive mode*
- All units are 12.5 credit points unless noted otherwise
- Onshore international students can undertake no more than 25% of their course by online or distance education and may not study exclusively online/distance in any compulsory study period in accordance with government regulation.

Standard entry
The entry requirements for Graduate Diploma of Engineering (Civil) are as follows:
- a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours)* (minimum four years of full time study) degree or
- a Graduate Certificate of Engineering (Civil) degree following on from a four-year Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) degree or
- a qualification deemed to be equivalent to any of the above
* Applicants with a recognised Bachelor of Engineering Honours degree in an approved cognate field may be eligible for advanced standing.
