Course description

In the Diploma of Accounting students learn to prepare corporate reports, manage budgets, prepare tax documentation, apply solutions to a range of often complex problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. After successfully completing this course, students may wish to continue their studies with a pathway to higher education.

International students in Australia who hold student visas are required to study full-time and on campus. Courses that are taught entirely online are only available to international students studying outside Australia or those in Australia who are not on a student visa. Online courses are not available to international students in Australia who hold a student visa.

Course structure

To obtain this qualification, students must satisfy the entry requirements and complete 11 units, including 7 core and 4 elective units. Two elective units are available to be credited from FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or equivalent training package. The full-time course will be delivered in one semester of 16-18 weeks duration. The part-time course will be delivered in two semesters, each of 16-18 weeks duration.

Career opportunities

This qualification reflects accounting job roles in financial services and other industries requiring accounting support functions, including reporting on business performance, preparing financial reports and statements, maintaining internal control systems, preparing tax returns and providing management accounting information.

Aims and objectives

This qualification builds on fundamental accounting knowledge to enable students to pursue a career in an accounting support role or continue their studies to a higher level. Students gain knowledge in internal control procedures, providing management accounting information, preparing tax documentation, corporate reporting and budget forecasting.

Professional recognition

This qualification includes units that comprise an approved Tax Practitioner Board (TPB) course in Australian taxation law and commercial law, which are relevant for registration as a tax agent. Persons seeking registration with the TPB should check current registration requirements with the TPB, as registration requirements are reviewed regularly.
