Course in Introduction to the National Disability Insurance Scheme
This course is suitable for current and future staff of the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) who will be working with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and its programs.
Gain a broad overview of the NDIS initiative, an understanding of the NDIS Act and NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework, and learn how to work effectively with people who access the scheme.
You’ll expand on your existing skills to support NDIS participants in achieving their set goals, maintaining personal safety, completing documentation, and working effectively with others. Plus enhance your listening, communication and support skills.
If you’re already working in the disability sector, considering it as a career or are just starting out as a direct support worker (DSW), and want to learn more about the NDIS, this course is for you.
Similarly, if you’re an aged care worker, education support worker, childcare worker, mental health worker, nurse, or otherwise work with people who access the NDIS, this course will give you the knowledge to work more effectively and confidentially with the NDIS.

Course description
The Course in Introduction to the National Disability Scheme (NDIS) is ideal for workers currently employed in mental health or disability services and potential students considering a career in these areas. This course will provide current and new employees with the necessary information to understand the type of direct support work required for working within the NDIS.
The course is delivered with a combination of on-line self-paced learning and teacher facilitated, on-line scheduled sessions. The blended delivery model combines tutorials, activities and role plays, as well as self-paced learning.
You will need access to a computer with a reliable internet connection, with adequate speed and sufficient data allowance.

Occupational roles may be found in a range of organisations that provide services to people with disabilities and or mental health such as day support, residential care officer, care assistant, or in a variety of settings in the social and community services industry.

Upon successful completion of this program, the student will have the basic knowledge required to work within the NDIS environment.

Graduate skills
The course is designed to provide a clear understanding of the NDIS and the qualities and skills required to work in this field, as well as to equip current and new employees to be successful in assisting and improving the health and well-being of people with a range of disabilities, which can be either physical and/or related to mental health.
After achieving this introductory course, learners may continue on a VET pathway via relevant training products from the CHC Community Services Training Package or the HLT Health Training Package.
