Course description
This combined postgraduate course is for students who wish to enhance their knowledge and undertake continuing professional development specifically in the fields of civil or structural engineering and construction management.
International students in Australia who hold student visas are required to study full-time and on campus. Courses that are taught entirely online are only available to international students studying outside Australia or those in Australia who are not on a student visa. Online courses are not available to international students in Australia who hold a student visa.
Course structure
To qualify for the Master of Engineering Practice / Master of Construction Management, students must complete a total of 16 units (200 credit points) as follows:
- 5 x Core Units (62.5 credit points)
- 6 x Civil Engineering OR Structural Engineering specialisation-specific units (75 credit points)
- 4 x Construction Management Specialisation units (50 credit points)
- 1 x Construction elective (12.5 credit points)
The Master of Engineering Practice / Master of Construction Management consists of 16 units (200 credit points). Units normally carry 12.5 credit points. This course is available on a full-time or part-time basis. In each academic year, two units (25 credit points) per semester would normally constitute a part-time load and four units (50 credit points) per semester constitute a full-time load. The volume of learning of the Master of Engineering Practice/Master of Construction Management is typically 2 years.

The maximum level of credit that can be granted for the Master of Engineering Practice / Master of Construction Management is 100 credit points (normally eight units)

Course fees
Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus. Due to government regulations, industry-based learning (IBL) and work placement are not available to onshore international students unless it is a compulsory component of the program. Programs that are taught solely online are not available to onshore international students who hold an international student visa.

- a Bachelor of Engineering (in Civil or Infrastructure or Construction) (Honours)* (minimum 4 years of full time study) degree, or
- a Graduate Certificate of Engineering (in Civil or Structural or Construction Management) degree following on from a 4-year Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Infrastructure or Construction) degree, or
- a qualification deemed to be equivalent to any of the above.
English language requirements
Satisfactory completion of one of the following:
- IELTS overall band of 6.5 (Academic Module) with no individual band below 6.0
- Swinburne’s English for Academic Purposes (EAP 5 Advanced level) with overall 70%, all skills 65%
- Or equivalent measures available at English language requirements.
