
Professor Zheng Lei
Biography
Zheng is the Chair of the Department of Aviation within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology. Prior to this appointment he was the Director of Centre for Aviation Research at the University of Surrey. Earlier, he was a Lecturer at Cranfield University.
Zheng holds a PhD in Air Transport and Tourism Management from the University of Surrey. He has research expertise in airline business models, air transport market analysis, air transport regulation and policy analysis, as well as aviation and regional competitiveness. A distinctive feature of his research is its real-world impact and industry focus. Zheng advises senior executives at airlines, airports, aircraft manufacturers, aviation service providers, and civil aviation authorities around the world on strategic issues through research, consultancy and executive development programs.
Zheng is the founder and President of the Institute for Aviation Research, an independent think tank dedicated to aviation research with a particular focus on China. He also serves as a Visiting Professor to Civil Aviation University of China.
