Sen Sendjaya is Professor of Leadership at Swinburne Business School, Swinburne University. He received his Ph.D. from Monash University in 2005.
A leading scholar on servant leadership, Sen has been awarded more than half a million dollars in research grants from governments (e.g., Australian Research Council) and industry. He has engaged with leaders in the government, transportation, and higher education sectors, leveraging their capacities to produce deep and lasting impacts on their followers and organisations. He has delivered executive education, corporate workshops, and research seminars in Australia and overseas (America, China, Japan, and Indonesia).
Sen is the creator of the Servant Leadership Behaviour Scale (SLBS), a widely used psychometric measure to inform leadership selection, assessment, and training in organisations. His research has appeared in the Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Business Research, and Personnel Review, among other scientific journals. He authored Personal and Organizational Excellence through Servant Leadership (Springer, 2015), a book-length treatment on servant leadership behavior in organisations, and edited Leading for High Performance in Asia (Springer, 2019).
Throughout his career, Sen has received several research and teaching awards including the 2017 Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management (ANZAM) Innovative Management Educator Award, the 2017 Dean's Awards for Teaching Excellence, the 2017 Dean’s Commendations for PRME Education Excellence. 2015 ANZAM Leadership stream Best Paper Award, and the 2012 US Academy of Management OB Division Best Paper Proceeding. Twice nominated as Supervisor of the Year, Sen has supervised to completion eight PhD and two Honours research students. He currently serves in the editorial board of Journal of Business Ethics and Leadership & Organizational Development Journal.
