Biography

Sen Sendjaya is Professor of Leadership at Swinburne Business School & Research Director at the Department of Management & Marketing, Swinburne University of Technology. He received his Ph.D. from Monash University in 2005.

A leading scholar in the field of servant leadership, his research has appeared in the Leadership Quarterly, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Ethics, and Journal of Business Research, among other journals. He is the author of Leadership Reformed (Routledge, 2019) and Personal and Organizational Excellence through Servant Leadership (Springer, 2015), and edited Leading for High Performance in Asia (Springer, 2019). Sen has been awarded external research grants from governments (e.g., Australian Research Council) and industry on servant leadership research projects. He currently serves in the editorial board of Journal of Business Ethics and Leadership & Organizational Development Journal.

Sen has delived executive education and corporate workshops, working with leaders in the government, transportation, finance & higher education sectors to leverage their capacities in producing highly effective and ethical organisations. His leadership development modules are based around the Servant Leadership Behaviour Scale (SLBS), a widely used psychometric measure to inform leadership selection, assessment, and training in organisations he developed and validated. Throughout his career, Sen has received several teaching awards including the Innovative Management Educator Award from the Australia Academy of Management (ANZAM).

Twice nominated as Supervisor of the Year, Sen has supervised to completion nine PhD and two Honours research students. He currently supervises PhD students in various leadership research topics including servant leadership, leadership development, leadership dentity, gratitude, and decision making.
