Dr Scott Menegon

Senior Lecturer

Scott is a Senior Lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology in the Department of Civil and Construction Engineering. Scott is also the President of the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society (AEES). Scott received his BEng (Hons) from Queensland University of Technology; MEngStruct from the University of Melbourne; and PhD from Swinburne University of Technology where he was the joint inaugural recipient of the prestigious Dr William Piper Brown AM scholarship. Scott is a Chartered Professional Engineer (structural) and has experience designing buildings in the health, government, education, transport and residential sectors. His primary research interests include reinforced concrete; precast concrete; earthquake engineering; and collision actions. Scott has undertaken several large-scale testing programs of RC walls, columns, core walls and associated connections, which have provided him with unique insights into the lateral load behaviour of multi-storey RC buildings, particularly under seismic actions. Scott is a member of BD-006-11 and BD-002-08, which are the Standards Australia sub-committees responsible for AS 1170.4 and the seismic provisions of AS 3600, respectively. Scott's contributions to seismic design in Australia have been recognised through being awarded the 2019 and 2022 RW Chapman Medal from Engineers Australia. Scott was chief editor of the recently revised commentary to AS 1170.4. His other research outputs include a textbook titled Collision Actions on Structures.
