He is also the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Higher Education at Holmesglen Institute. In particular, his most recent research focuses on the impact of social and digital media on the way we form communities, the quality of news created, the way we receive information and prioritise news and content.

Sam has published research articles in ranked peer-reviewed sports media, sport and society and philosophy journals, contributed chapters in sports media themed books and has authored two books, Footy Grounds to Grandstands and The Digital World of Sport.
