Biography
Professor Paula Swatman has been an Information Systems academic since 1988 and has worked in ICT and e-Business for 25 years, holding Chairs in both Australia and Germany. After retiring from full-time academic life at the end of 2009, Paula and her husband moved to Tasmania’s Huon Valley, where they now breed Santa Gertrudis cattle on their small farm.
In addition to her 'conventional' academic career, Paula has been involved in Human Research Ethics for many years. She has been Chair of Swinburne University’s HREC since April 2016 and a Category F (researcher) member with Bellberry since February 2016. She was a member of the Tasmanian Social Sciences HREC for seven years, chairing that HREC from 2012 – 2016; and has been a member of HRECs at Monash, RMIT and UniSA over a period of 20 years. Paula is especially interested in the ethical issues associated with online research and social media, an area in which she has been presenting and publishing for some years now.
