Biography
Dr Ngan Nguyen is a Research Fellow in Biomedical Engineering at MedTechVic, a hub for interdisciplinary innovation and collaboration. MedTechVic involves people with lived disability in the research & design process, to enhance their lives and the lives of others who need assistive technologies.
Dr Nguyen has a background in engineering and biology, especially in the field of microfluidics. They achieved First Class Honours in BEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering (RMIT) and completed a PhD in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering (RMIT) with a high research output (13 publications). Their research resulted in the development of alternative microfabrication of microfluidic devices for sophisticated biomedical applications, using materials that are affordable and accessible. Dr Nguyen has produced microfluidic systems for cell sorting, droplet generation, cell culture, heat transfer, reagent mixing, and for studying the mechanobiology of cardiovascular cells under physiological flow and stretch conditions.
Dr Nguyen transitioned to the health sector as they are passionate about directly helping people and creating tailored products for actual specified needs. As a part of MedTechVic, they are involved in many aspects of medical engineering including Discovery workshops, CAD and computational simulations, materials and mechanical testing, and volumetric capturing.
