Biography

Steve is now a Professor at Swinburne University in Melbourne, Australia. He was until November 2013, a Professor of Marketing at Monash University. He specialises in the issues surroundings the distribution of financial services particularly by electronic channels and in the organisation and control of the payments systems through which these transactions are carried out. Steve has published his research widely, both in academic journals such as the International Journal of Bank Marketing and the Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, and in more practitioner focused publications such as The Financial Times, The Australian Financial Review and Payment Cards and Mobile Banking.  He also written a number of case studies and text book chapters concerning both bank and retailer provision of financial services. He is a frequent contributor to The Conversation and to ANZ Bank’s thought leadership BlueNotes series.A frequent presenter/chairman at industry conferences, Steve is also used by the media as an independent commentator on the delivery of financial services to consumers and he has been involved in Banking Inquiries set up by Governments in both Australia and the United Kingdom. In 2013 he completed a commissioned paper for the Australian Centre for Financial Studies on Regulatory Interventions and their Consequences in the Australian Payment System. He has also researched and published on the payment card markets in China and Japan and acted as an Expert Witness in cases involving the marketing of financial services.
