Dr Lachlan Hyde

Adjunct Industry Fellow

Biography

Lachlan Hyde is Adjunct Industry Fellow at Swinburne University of Technology. He joined Swinburne in 2017 as the project manager of the graphene supply chain certification CRC-P where he established Graphene Certification Labs with the help of Prof Bronwyn Fox. Prior to joining SUT, Lachlan was a senior process engineer at the Melbourne Centre for Nanofabrication, specialising in a range of fabrication and characterisation techniques, including atomic layer deposition, diamond deposition, and ellipsometry; in addition to leading MCNs business development initiatives. While completing his PhD at the University of South Australia, Lachlan upgraded the lab to align with modern semiconductor and nanofabrication techniques, which is an area he is still passionate about.

Lachlan has a diverse research portfolio born from helping many industry partners solve their research goals, commonly using a materials science approach and most recently focusing on graphene and enabling its translation and commercialisation. Lachlan is passionate about connecting talented, multi-disciplinary teams to overcome the challenging problems confronted by industry partners and often says he has no too hard basket.

Acting as a bridge between academia and industry, Lachlan strives to understand all parties' perspectives and expected outcomes; attributes well suited to his new role as program leader for Space Manufacturing within Swinburne's Space Technology and Industry Institute.
