Dr Kim Beasy

Adjunct Research Fellow

Biography

Kim Beasy is an Adjunct Research Fellow with the Victorian Hydrogen Hub and based in the School of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities. Her work explores social impacts of emerging hydrogen technologies through critical engagement with ideas of social licence, and through engaging with community using inclusive and participatory approaches. Her work seeks to inform how hydrogen technologies can be a part of transitions toward sustainable futures and contribute toward positive social, economic and environmental outcomes. Her previous work has included collaborations with a number of universities internationally including the University of Melbourne, University of Waikato, University of Otago, University of Gothenburg and Humboldt University to investigate integration of education for sustainability in tertiary education courses.

Throughout her career, Kim has maintained a focus on publishing in high quality journals and in forums that support access and impact across academic, professional and community audiences. Her publications on sustainability add to the field of education for sustainability, with an important contribution to Environmental Sustainability in 2021 provocatively asking ‘what counts as sustainability?’.

Kim uses a range of social theories and qualitative research methodologies in her research with academic, industry and government partners. She has received funding to advance understandings of how to embed sustainability thinking and practice into work and community cultures. Her ideas are used in schools, government departments and in community organisations throughout Australia to inform policy and practice related to transitioning toward sustainable futures.
