Blanca del Rosal is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Centre of Micro-Photonics. Her current research focuses on the application of light-activated nanomaterials for infrared fluorescence bioimaging, sensing and photothermal stimulation. Luminescent nanoparticles can act as contactless sensors of parameters like local temperature or electrical activity, enabling the study of the mechanisms behind biological processes in a minimally invasive manner both at the cellular level and in animal models.
Before joining Swinburne, Blanca obtained a degree in Physics (2011) and a PhD in Photonics (2017) at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain. During her PhD, under the supervision of Prof. Daniel Jaque, she developed a system for autofluorescence-free near-infrared imaging of small animal models. She employed infrared-emitting nanoparticles for in vivo imaging, temperature sensing and photothermal therapy.
