Swinburne professor appointed Chief Adviser to Sarawak government

A Swinburne professor is to take up the role of Chief Scientist and Chief Adviser to the State Government of Sarawak, Malaysia.
Professor Jugdutt (Jack) Singh has been appointed to the position of Chief Scientist and Chief Adviser for Digital Economy to the State Government of Sarawak, a secondment from Swinburne Research that will span three years.
Professor Singh will provide advice and recommendations to the State Government of Sarawak on policies, directions, initiatives, strategies and action plans.
The primary focus of Professor Singh’s appointment is to lead the implementation of the digital economy agenda for Sarawak.
In recent months, as part of a strategic research agreement between the State Government of Sarawak and Swinburne Research, Professor Singh has provided guidance for the development of the Sarawak Government’s five-year Digital Economy Strategy.
Prior to this appointment, Professor Singh was made Director of the Digital Innovation and Translation at Swinburne in May 2016.
This was a new position within Swinburne’s Research and Innovation Strategy, with the aim of scaling up of Swinburne’s digital innovation, translation and commercialisation in collaboration with industry.
In his time as Director of Digital Innovation and Translation, Professor Singh has led a number of strategic initiatives and successfully collaborated with industry.
These collaborations include work on the bids for new Farming Smart CRC and the Fight Food Waste and Fraud CRC.
Professor Singh has also been instrumental in the redevelopment of the Digital Innovation Lab, and in developing partnerships with Wipro and Capgemini.
Swinburne Deputy-Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, Professor Aleksandar Subic, says Professor Singh has Swinburne’s full support in this position.
