Attention Junior Scientists! Get ready for two days filled with hands-on holiday science for curious kids from Prep to Year 6.
The PrimeSCI! Team is excited to return to Swinburne’s Hawthorn campus, joined by Butterfly Adventures these holidays.
Science Workshops
Explore inhalation, exhalation, and investigate your own lung capacity. See this spongy organ up close and watch it inflate! Learn about how the heart works non-stop and study a dissected lamb heart. This session links the movement of gases in and out of our bodies with their transportation through our blood. (1 hr)
Prep - Grade 4
Discover what happens when scientists and eggs are mixed together. The lesson will include testing the strength of the egg shape, protecting eggs and launching eggs with our own catapaults. You will never look at a carton of eggs the same way again! (Please do not attend if you have an egg allergy!) (1hr)
Grade 3 - 6
Explore the world of plastics, molecules and polymers, and learn the unique uses of each plastic type. Take home your own fun polymer and amazing piece of shrinking plastic to remind you about the science of plastics. (1hr)
Grade 3 - 6
Get up close with real butterflies! Become a butterfly expert and learn new words like “proboscis”, “cremaster” and “spiracles”. Learn about the butterfly life cycle and metamorphosis, insect ecology, and morphology. (1hr)

Workshop details
Enrolment fee
- $24.50 per child for each 1 hour workshop (plus $0.50 Trybooking Fee)
Please note
- Children must be booked into their correct school year level only.
- Children attending multiple sessions must be supervised by a parent/guardian during break times.
COVID safety
All Swinburne workshops will be held in accordance with Victorian government COVID regulations. The wearing of masks is suggested.
