A Social Sciences Week event

When children cannot live with their parents, the next best option is to live with relatives or a member of their extended social network. Known as 'kinship care', this type of arrangement is highly beneficial for children, but it also presents challenges for families, child protection authorities and the legal fraternity.

This workshop will explore challenges experienced by kinship carers, emerging issues confronting kinship care, ways to improve policies and practices, as well as strategies for building community awareness.

Non-government organisations, policymakers, researchers, public advocates, and students are invited to contribute to the discussion with the aim of establishing a network to strengthen supports for families, carers, and children involved in kinship care in Victoria.

This event is hosted by Swinburne and Kinship Carers Victoria.
