Webinar 2: Emerging Social Data Governance in Europe  

In this webinar, Marina Micheli of the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre will describe four emerging data governance models: data sharing pools, data cooperatives, public data trusts, and personal data sovereignty. These conceptualisations encourage policy makers to ask questions on data power, such as: what principles guide data sharing and use? Who can access and participate in its governance? What value is produced and how it is redistributed?

Marina Micheli is a Scientific Project Officer at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC). Her current work explores data governance for the public interest, examining in particular the perspectives of social actors and the emerging governance models. She is interested in the social value of data, digital inequalities and data power and her background is at the intersection of media studies and sociology. Prior to joining the Commission, she was a Senior Researcher and Teaching Associate at the University of Zurich (Switzerland) and a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Department of Sociology and Social Research at the University Milano-Bicocca (Italy).
