Tom Spurling Oration: Lifting the long tail in post-COVID Australia
The Centre for Transformative Innovation invites you to the 2020 Tom Spurling Oration three part webinar series. The series will explore beyond the second Great Depression and discuss restoring employment and prosperity in the 2020s.
Keynote presentation from The Honourable John Brumby, AO
In our first of three webinars, Mr Brumby will speak on - Lifting the long tail: how to restore employment and find new sources of growth in post-COVID Australia.
Abstract
In his presentation, John Brumby will discuss possible short- and long-term responses to the current crisis.
As a member of the Hawke Government during Australia’s last recession, as Treasurer and then Premier of Victoria during the Global Financial Crisis of 2008-09, and as Chair of a number of for-profit and not-for-profit organisations affected by the current crisis, John Brumby is well-placed to reflect on how technology and R&D might be harnessed to restore old sources of growth and create new ones. He'll also discuss how to lift the long tail of unemployment that is likely to follow Australia’s biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression.
