The Masters of Information Technology internship project unit was my first step towards my IT career in Australia.

The unit helps students kick start a career in their chosen field. This is really useful for international students, like me, who want to learn about the Australian industry and work culture.

Sioaib completed his internship at Media Links.

Some international students think they won’t get an internship as they don’t understand Australian work culture and won’t even apply for the Masters of IT internship project unit. But that is not the case. Everyone is evaluated equally when it comes to internships.

  • It’s a great opportunity to learn about the Australian workplace and help their future career.

Shoaib , Masters of Information Technology

During my internship I was part of a collaborative team, at Media Links Australia, with interns from other universities.

As the organisation uses proprietary technologies, our team did research and report on findings, which helped me improve my research and report writing skills. We also had hands-on tasks involving configuration and testing of different hardware and software; giving me practical experience and significantly improving my technical skills.

My supervisor was really helpful and flexible – letting me learn at my own pace.

In my opinion communication is the key to a successful and healthy workplace environment. My internship taught me how to improve my communication and teamwork skills as well as develop professional industry contacts. I also become aware of professional issues and practices in the workplace such as teamwork, workplace ethics and etiquette.

These skills are some of the greatest advantages for my future career.
