Noelene | Nursing

"My placements have given me the confidence to apply for jobs."

Noelene Taylor, graduate of Swinburne's Diploma of Nursing

Proving that it’s never too late to re-train and take up a new career, Noelene Taylor completed the nationally accredited Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled-Division 2 nursing) course at age 55.

"I had always been interested in the medical profession, having worked for nine years as a personal carer. I’ve also been a medical receptionist, and raised three accident-prone children, so going into nursing felt like a natural fit for me!".

This hands-on, practical course saw Noelene undertake 400 hours of supervised clinical placements in mental health, aged care, sub-acute nursing and acute nursing facilities and hospitals.

These placements were an invaluable learning experience for Noeleen and her fellow students, giving them the opportunity to take what they were learning outside of the classroom. In doing so they gained confidence and experience working in a professional healthcare environment.

"Now that I have graduated and am looking for full-time nursing opportunities, I’ve got to say it’s my placements that have really given me the confidence to apply for jobs.

It's because of them that I feel that I have everything I need to be a great nurse: knowledge, confidence in my abilities, and above all experience."
