Placed at: Robert Bosch Australia

The Professional Placement program was one of the main reasons I chose to study at Swinburne. The program gave me the opportunity to work as a Student Office Coordinator and Marketing Assistant at the global organisation Robert Bosch Australia.

No day in this role was the same, which helped me to develop my communication and teamwork skills. Working within a large global company, I constantly communicated with people from different departments and often from different parts of the world. I therefore had to be mindful of how I communicated – particularly with regards to slang, as often not everyone knew what I was talking about!

The best thing about placement is meeting new people and seeing what it’s like to be in the workforce.

From day one, I’ve been treated like any other employee and I really respect my colleagues for that. I worked with extremely intelligent and interesting people; we’re always having a laugh. I can now see myself in the marketing and communications industry, whereas previously it had just been a dream.

I think it would be silly not to do some form of placement or work experience while you study. It has shown me I am studying what I want to do, and I’m working towards a career in an industry I’m excited and passionate about.
