Cultural Study Tour: Indonesia

The Cultural Study Tour to Indonesia has been designed to be as immersive as possible to allow students the opportunity to contextualise their knowledge through firsthand experience. While in Indonesia, students will be given the opportunity to learn about the impacts of colonisation, industrialisation and globalisation, among other contemporary social and political issues, and to develop new appreciation for these processes.

The tour is comprised of a combination of academic content delivered through in-country seminars and experiential, self-led learning and exploration. Some of the areas that will be covered in the unit include a focus on economic development, history of colonisation, ethical tourism, modern human rights issues and environmental sustainability. Students will also be given the opportunity to partner with local Javanese university students, work with refugee communities and visit sites of cultural importance.
