Overview

The NCP funded study tour is an opportunity to use your film making skills in the jungles of North Thailand. The tour is a joint collaboration between Swinburne FTV, Swinburne Study Abroad and CAA - Challenges Abroad Australia.

We will be initially based in beautiful Chiang Mai where students will settle into Thai life. Introductory seminars will include social and cultural customs of the North Thailand people as well as ethnographic method.  Students will have an opportunity to immerse themselves in the important cultural treasures of the city. CAA and Swinburne staff will then accompany students by bus to Mae Sariang, where everything is organised for a safe and instructive immersion into North Thailand jungle – including orientation, liaising with community groups, introductions with villagers, supporting students with filming and editing and debriefing with our team and the students.  Limited camera and editing equipment will be provided but students are encouraged to bring their own camera and editing equipment for optimal outputs.

This is a once on a lifetime opportunity to get in the jungle, film and mentor young people in a cultural and community setting that is life changing.  The tour will culminate in a village presentation of works in progress in Thailand and Australia.

Students who participate in this unit are eligible to gain up to 12.5 credit points towards their degree.
