Scholarships for students living on campus

You may be eligible to access financial assistance, in the form of scholarships, which covers some of the costs of your accommodation at Swinburne. 

Ordinary residential scholarships are avaiable for new and intending residents. Experienced students may apply for Resident Adviser scholarships.

Residential scholarships

Residential scholarships are available for full-time students. We assess applicants on academic merit, leadership qualities and financial circumstances. 

Who can apply: any full-time student who will live in student residences, at the Hawthorn campus, for the whole academic year

Value: $1,000 reduction of ordinary costs

Number of scholarships available: 20

Senior Resident Adviser scholarships

SRA scholarships are available for seasoned student leaders. We are looking for role models in Swinburne residences who positively enhance the on-campus resident community.

Who can apply: full-time students with exemplary conduct and academic performance, who are willing to prioritise their RA duties above other extra-curricular commitments

Value: $3,500 per semester

Number of scholarships available: two per semester

Resident Adviser scholarships

Resident Advisers are live-in students who help nurture a healthy, safe environment and positive community for student residents. They are key in facilitating on-campus events and helping student residents with problems. 

Who can apply: full-time students with exemplary conduct and academic performance, willing to prioritise their RA duties above other extra-curricular commitments

Value: $2,000 per semsester subject to mid-year review, except where otherwise stated

Number of scholarships available: 22 total

Summer Resident Adviser scholarship

The Summer Resident Adviser scholarships are available to eligible, live-in, Resident Advisers who remain in the Hawthorn campus residences between 1 December and 11 February. They are expected to fulfil the usual RA responsibilities during this time. 

Value: fixed payment equivalent to weekly fees for the duration of the summer period

Number of scholarships available: five

Bond assistance

We have a fund to help students with a one-off bond payment if they are experiencing financial difficulty and have been approved as on-campus resident.

Who can apply: any full-time student approved to live in student residences at the Hawthorn campus for the whole academic year

Value: exemption from payment of bond for one (1) year

Number of scholarships available: discretionary, awarded on a competitive basis

Other scholarships

Many other scholarships exist that cover tuition costs, but may also include a financial component you can use towards your accommodation and housing expenses while studying at Swinburne. 

If you apply for, and are awarded, another type of Swinburne scholarship, we may allocate you an on-campus place provided the scholarship can be used towards accommodation costs.
