Establishing a research partnership

Starting a research partnership with Swinburne is a streamlined and straight-forward process.

We'll identify the best researchers and facilities for your needs, arrange introductions and guide you through the contracting process outlined below. Contact us for more information about research partnerships.

Research contract process

To form a research partnership:

Step 1. Swinburne and your organisation agree on a research contract which covers:

  • The scope of work
  • Methodology
  • A fully-costed budget of the research activity.

Step 2. We decide whether to use Swinburne’s standard research agreement or a contract prepared by your organisation.

Our standard agreement aims to streamline the formalisation of contract terms and contains many important standard terms.

Step 3. The Swinburne legal team reviews:

  • Any changes you require to our standard research contract
    or
  • The terms and conditions of a contract prepared by your organisation.

We will negotiate the ownership of intellectual property (IP)  on a case-by-case basis. We aim to establish workable agreements which are fair to all parties.

Step 4. Swinburne’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research and Development) will sign the contract once it has been finalised.
