Urban Design

Design spaces of influence

Create, speculate and engage with people, data and advanced technologies to design the public realm. Working in a truly transdisciplinary, technology rich setting, you’ll tackle the urgent challenges of designing healthy cities of the future. Take on the big issues facing our cities, such as population growth, urbanisation, climate change, housing affordability, urban mobility and public health.

Become future-ready as you learn how to harness emerging, and established, technologies to create places which respond to their environments. Get a handle on big-data and analytics and use it to engage with projects in a more sophisticated way: give evidence for your position and have more meaningful, and persuasive, conversations with project teams.

By engaging with data and technology, you’ll gain fresh design perspectives and develop the skills to provide evidence and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders. Discover how to create spaces that positively impact economic, environmental, social and cultural outcomes. Explore urban design principles through engaging teaching methods, including the use of geospatial data analysis, VR, AR, metaphor, and working on industry briefed projects. Immerse yourself in research and leverage The Centre for Design Innovation (CDI),  The Centre for Urban Transitions and Smart Cities Institute.

Our programs prepare you for employment and business. In a simulated practice environment, you’ll develop exceptional spatial thinking, and design and data modelling skills. Go in-depth into urban policy, learn how to be an influential leader, a valuable team member, and apply out-of-the-box thinking for fresh solutions.

I am passionate about guiding students in their development of skills, knowledge, and conceptual thinking to be able to engage with the immediate challenges they will face in practice, but also the capacity to continue to learn and adapt in a rapidly changing discipline.
