Imagine an exciting life in performance and arts, traveling the world to perform or managing circus and performance schools to help train performing students.

Circus professional Sosina Wogayehu describes herself as “a big dreamer”. What really sets her apart though, is that her dreams tend to come true. Sosina received a prestigious Order of Australia Membership (OAM) for service to the performing arts in 2019.

She was a finalist for Victoria’s Young Australian of the Year in 2004 and the first National Institute Circus Arts (NICA) graduate to secure a permanent position with Circus Oz.

Sosina Wogayehu, Bachelor of Small Companies and Community Theatre (NICA) alumna, Order of Australia Membership recipient and Director, Gamo Circus School, Ethiopia

Sosina, who became an Australian citizen in 2002, now runs Gamo Circus School in Ethiopia. She wants to help her students become the best performers in the world and use arts, education and culture to build a bridge between Australia and Ethiopia.

Sosina says her studies taught her not only performance, but also lighting, sound, stage management, production management, costume design and marketing. These are skills she is using now in her own circus school.
